Every week, I organize 400 to 700 links into roughly 60 categories as part of my ongoing effort to learn about AI. This is my personal notebook, which I enjoy sharing with friends… a hobby and a labor of love, rather than a commercial publication or product.

If you arrived here through a search or shared link, this page collects the links I found for Nous Research for the week ending July 31, 2026.

As part of my learning process, I like to automate the category covers. It gives me a chance to learn Python and APIs.

This week’s cover prompt was written using Claude Opus 4.7, and the image was generated using Gemini 3.1 Flash Image Preview.

Category Cover Image Prompt: A 1973 Chevelle Malibu in flat primer gray parked half-inside an open garage bay on a wet night alley, hood up, back wall covered in taped hand-drawn neural network schematics and annotated blueprints lit by a single bare amber bulb, a golden-yellow scorpion stencil spray-painted on a battered steel toolbox in the foreground, sodium-vapor glow and deep teal shadows, 35mm anamorphic film grain, soft halation, cinematic one-sheet composition with generous negative space, the title Nous Research scrawled in hot magenta-pink handwritten brush script across the upper third.

This Week in Nous Research News

Summary by Claude Sonnet 5.5 based on this week’s links:

  • Hermes Agent gets a voice: Teknium said Hermes Agent now supports wake word activation, so it can stand in for a smart speaker on any device that runs the GUI or CLI locally. He also said voice chats got faster because most API-based text-to-speech backends now stream their speech.
  • Open model sovereignty: Nous Research said it joined the new Open Secure AI Alliance, arguing that open model sovereignty makes the world safer. Teknium added his own pointed comments on open models and on proposed bans of them.
  • Harness comparison: In a Composio comparison, Kimi Code, Hermes and Claude Code had close success rates on 28 tasks (22, 21 and 20). Hermes had the lowest median time per task at 179 seconds, against 297 for Kimi Code and 348 for Claude Code.

This summary was generated by Claude Sonnet 5.5 to help you explore the links below. Rest assured, I select, organize, and check the links by hand in Google Sheets, and write the introduction and personal commentary in The Main Newsletters myself each week as a labor of love.

Voice chats in Hermes Agent are now way faster, most API provided TTS backends will stream their speech so you get closer to real time interactions!”

At Nous Research we believe that open model sovereignty will make the world a safer place. We are a proud member of the new Open Secure AI Alliance and look forward to working closely with the other members towards this future.”

As we mentioned, success rates stayed close, but speed and token efficiency split between harnesses: – Success rate: 22/28 for Kimi Code, 21/28 for Hermes, 20/28 for Claude Code – Median time per task: 179s in Hermes, 297s in Kimi Code, 348s in Claude Code So the fastest”

I switched back to fable too. Its worse than opus 4.6-8 too. It caused some gnarly issues in hermes agent and i wont be using it again. Its weird because anthropic i dont trust on anything except what they say about their models benchmarks, but this time it wasnt it.”

“we don’t support bans on open source models because that wouldn’t go far enough!””

Open models bring a lot to the table when closed models close more than just the weights”
