It’s almost April, and I’ve left ice bath season behind and started training for a 10-mile mountain run in the toasty Arizona desert during a business trip this May.
I’ve started doing the sauna for 20-minutes. It’s a jarringly opposite experience I’ve had to hit the road and get some miles under my belt because I don’t run much anymore. I’ve been using the StairMaster to practice for the elevation gain and I’m up to a solid 45 minutes. Today, I ran a slow, flat 10 miles along the beach, which would’ve been easy four years ago, but I am very rusty.
During the run, I decided to meditate on twelve national political issues that are bothering me, letting them bounce around in my head as I ran. I tried to put them to bed so I could focus on being a happier person with the people around me.
I also reflected on how glad I am to have reconnected with my good friend Pete Pistone. When my dad died, Pete sent me a video message. It was one of the kindest and most meaningful notes I’ve ever received. The message was a catalyst for Pete and me staying in touch almost daily for the past three years, and I appreciate his friendship tremendously.
