About This Week’s Covers
This week’s cover concept reflects Ethan Mollick’s observation that AI-assisted communication is becoming increasingly prevalent online, potentially leading to a future where AIs dominate interaction. The cover reimagines a classic Victorian Christmas scene showing two figures passing on a snowy London street. Instead of exchanging festive greetings, they’re surrounded by glowing speech bubbles filled with binary code. The image concept itself was thought-up by Claude 3.5 Sonnet, “A Victorian London street scene in the style of John Leech’s Christmas Carol illustrations, with two figures passing each other beneath gas lamps while glowing speech bubbles of binary code float above them in the snowy air.” I ran the prompt through MidJourney, Flux, and Ideogram and MidJourney came out the best.
This week’s covers were inspired by Jacob Lawrence, known for his vibrant, narrative paintings that celebrate African American life and history with bold colors and dynamic shapes. The covers were created using Claude 3.5 and the Ideogram API, with the theme ‘Jacob Lawrence + category name.’ I’m testing Ideogram’s ability to reference artists, as a way to learn the API.

Sam Altman Shares Impressive ChatGPT Growth and 2025 AGI Prediction
At the NYT Dealbook Summit, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed impressive ChatGPT stats, including 300 million weekly active users, 1 billion daily messages, and 1.3 million U.S. developers using the platform. He also shared his AGI outlook, predicting the first signs of artificial general intelligence could emerge as early as 2025. While Altman expects initial impacts to be subtle, he warned that the long-term transformation and the shift toward superintelligence will likely exceed public expectations in intensity and scale.

AI-Written Content Could Overrun the Open Internet – Even With People Approving It
Ethan Mollick from Wharton highlights a growing challenge for the open internet: the proliferation of AI-generated content. This isn’t just about bots or scams—many real users turn to AI for help with writing due to language barriers, time constraints, or the pressure to maintain consistent posting. Even efforts like removing anonymity or adding fees won’t curb the trend, as individuals use AI for their own legitimate purposes. As AI tools become easier and cheaper to use, detecting AI-written material becomes nearly impossible. The result? A future where much of online communication could be dominated by AIs interacting with each other.
