We can steer the raft, but we can’t steer the river. Agents are coming, browsers are dying: see perspectives from three people smarter than me at the bottom of this post.
In current news, these three screenshots recap my quick recon mission to find out the four companies which were contracted for video surveillance during the Paris olympics. This is barely agent behavior, it’s conversational Chrome.

Ars Technica published an article that mentioned four companies were contracted but only gave the name of one, Wintics. Being OCD, I asked GPT to skim the article and tell me if I missed the names. GPT couldn’t read the article, so I pasted it in. GPT then got the three other names from other sources: Videtics, Orange Business, and ChapsVision. Quick work.
It’s worth repeating that Marc Andreessen predicts web browsers will go away – since he invented them.

In the November 2023 edition of “Gates Notes,” Bill Gates wrote “You won’t have different apps for different tasks. You’ll simply tell your device, in everyday language, what you want to do… Agents are not only going to change how everyone interacts with computers. They’re going to upend the software industry.”

Mark Zuckerberg in July: “Our vision is that there should be a lot of different AI out there and AI services, not just one singular AI… I think we’re going to live in a world where there are going to be hundreds of millions or billions of different AI agents eventually, probably more AI agents than there are people in the world….Every business in the future, just like they have an email address, a website, and a social media presence today, is going to have an AI agent that their customers can talk to in the future.”
